Every year about this time players start reporting for the next year of Major League Baseball. There will be suprises and disappointments (and some disappointments that turn into surprises, Thank you Houston Astros ‘05.) This is the season for hope to spring eternal and all teams are undefeated. (Even the Cubs have a chance in March.) Baseball America has listed their top prospects for the new year below. Let me know what you think of the list.

Can you tell me a little bit about Lastings Miledge, the Mets prospect. Do you think he will make it up to the big leagues this season for the Mets?
First let me state that I am not an expert on the NY Mets farm system.
The NY Mets seem to really like Lastings Miledge. He has been involved in just about every trade rumor of involving the Mets. Omar Minaya is adament that he will not trade Miledge though. He played well in the Arizona Fall League.
From MLB.com “Milledge collected hits in 21 of 24 games en route to a .330 batting average. He also hit five homers, collected 23 RBIs and scored 24 runs.”
I think barring a spectacular Spring Training or injuries it seems unlikely that Lastings Miledge will get a crack at the majors this year (other than a September callup.) The Mets have 3 bonafide starters (including an All-Star center fielder who has a behemoth contract) in the outfield and 2 backups already slated in the 40 man roster. I can possibly see him on the AAA squad depending on his spring.
